Shaq Traded to Cavs
Thursday, June 25, 2009, 09:53 AM - NBA
Posted by Mike Ferrara

The Suns have traded Shaq to the Cavs for Sasha Pavlovic, Ben Wallace and a 2nd round pick. A lot of this deal comes down to money more than anything else. As we said last night on the show, having a big body like Shaq can defintely help make a difference if LeBron and company face Dwight Howard and the Orlando Magic again.

New York Baseball Teams Get Shutout
Wednesday, June 24, 2009, 12:27 AM - MLB, Yankees, Mets
Posted by Mike Ferrara
Well the Yankees and Mets suffered similiar fates tonight as both were shutout by the opposition. The Yankees only left more than a dozen runners on base while the Mets wasted a solid performance by Livan and the rest of their pitchers. Hey, at least for New York fans, Brian Leetch was selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame. However, this does not do much for the local Islander or Devil fan in the area. Ugly stuff happening on the New York baseball scene right now...

Carlos Beltran Hits the Disabled List
Monday, June 22, 2009, 04:57 PM - Mets

There are various reports coming from Citi Field, including one from former guest Matthew Cerrone of METSBLOG.COM, that Carlos Beltran has been placed on the 15-day disabled list.

Beltran had an MRI done on his aching right knee. I guess we have answer to the question, 'who's next?'

Donald Fehr Stepping Down as Head of MLB Players Union
Monday, June 22, 2009, 03:11 PM - MLB
Posted by Mike Ferrara

ESPN is reporting that Donald Fehr is stepping down from his post as the head of Major League Baseball's Player's Union. Perhaps the strongest union in sports, Fehr was a very visible figure. He was at the center of the strike in 1994 as Bud Selig's main opposition and was also on hand for the Congressional hearings on steroids. It will be interesting to see how this story plays out, as I am not 100% sold that he is leaving on his own accord.

Part of me believes that he was a dead man walking ever since A-Rod's name was leaked as a part of that list of 104 players that tested positive in a 2003 drug test, in which the results were supposed ot be anonymous.

Lucas Glover Wins U.S. Open
Monday, June 22, 2009, 02:00 PM - Misc

As we all expected, Lucas Glover won the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black. Despite Phil Mickelson's best efforts, which at one point put him on top of the leaderboard, a bogey on the 17th hole pretty much sealed his faith. David Duval also had a nice showing that came up just short. Tiger was a factor early, but quickly dropped out of contention.

QUICK THOUGHT: It was interesting to see how ESPN and NBC shared the coverage today. Odd to hear NBC personalities such as Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller calling the action on the 'Worldwide Leader in Sports.'

U.S. Open Becoming an Instant Classic

Phil Mickelson's charge to the top of the leaderboard along with David Duval and several others plus having it all play out over five days have certainly made this year's tournament at Bethpage Black a memorable one. Don't forget, that if you are stuck at work and can't watch the tournament on TV, NBC is streaming the coverage live at NBCSports.com

Yankees, Mets Continue to Play Stellar Baseball
Sunday, June 21, 2009, 09:13 PM - MLB, Yankees, Mets

Despite glimpses of hope, small glimpses at that, the Yankees lost another series. The Mets did the same as they dropped another one to the Rays. Both the Yankees and Mets have each one the first game of their previous two series' before losing the final two. Simple math tells you that kind of baseball doesn't get you to October.
