Release Date for New A-Rod Book has no meaning, right?

Selena Roberts is getting credit for breaking the story of the century, that of course being A-Rod and his use of performance enhancing substances.

Now she (or her publishing company) is set to make big-time money as her new "tell-all" book is set to be released, uhhh soon.

Originally scheduled to be released on April 16th, the date has been set back a few times now, all corresponding with A-Rod's timeline to return to the majors. How ironic?

Some of the most interesting stuff in the book, that was printed in today's New York Daily News (image of cover below), included A-Rod's supposed use of steroids as far back as high school and as current as during his time with the Yankees. He is also accused of tipping pitches to opponents during blow-outs.

Is anyone else ready for A-Rod to just be a baseball player again? Unfortunately for him, that will most likely never become a reality.

WRIGHT IS WRONG

It's bad enough that the Mets blew what should have been, as designed, an eighth inning where J.J. Putz was supposed to do his job. Obviously, that didn't happen.

These games in April count as much as they do in September. These losses are what make Mets fans squirm in the final week of the season.

But my real problem, besides his ridiculous haircut, is that David Wright is wrong. Samson and David Wright have the same barber, and Wright needs to grow his hair back as quickly as possible. To look at a third strike is inexcusable (See Carlos Beltran 2006 NLCS). And please tell me, did we really have to wait ten minutes for Omir Santos to come ill-prepared to pinch hit from the Mets' bullpen for Ramon Castro (who already had two hits in the game)?!?

Perhaps, not only is David Wright wrong, but Jerry Manuel needs to re-think 'managing 101'.

DEVILS BLOW IT BIG TIME! SEASON OVER

Add the Devils to the list of local teams that suffered brutal losses tonight.

What a unbelievable finish to the Devils game.

As crazy as the Rangers game was, this one was just as crazy.

The Hurricanes trailed 3-2 with 1:20 left and scored TWO TIMES to win the game and end the Devils' season.

Newark is in shock, and not just because there is actually hockey being played there...

The New York Metro-area teams had another bad showing tonight going 1-for-4 with the Yankees being the only team coming out victorious.

Should make for an interesting show tomorrow.

Favre Era Officially Over

The Jets officially released Brett Favre from the reserved-retired list, making him a free agent.

Through his agent, FAvre said he has no plans on coming back to play in what would be his 19th season in the NFL.

I will believe Favre's whole retirement shtick when I see it...

Rangers and Mets fail simultaneously...Again

As we discussed on yesterday's show, Mets/Rangers fans felt double the pain on Sunday with both teams losing their games literally at the same time.

Tonight is a bit worse, as the Rangers season ended within 15 minutes of the Mets' bullpen blowing the lead in the seventh inning.

----

The good news of the night comes out of Detroit with Phil Hughes' stellar performance. Here is his line from tonight:

6 IP
2 H
2 BB
0 ER
6 K

Mark Melancon's 1-2-3 inning in the eighth was the cherry on top. Along with Andrew Brackman, Melancon is the Yankee prospect that I am the most excited about seeing in the big leagues.

BREAKING NEWS: Rangers Eliminated

What a classic series. This series really exemplified what playoff hockey is all about and why there is nothing better in sports.

Safe to say that the passion for hockey is back in Washington D.C.

As of this post, the Devils are up 3-2 to start the third period.

My remote control might not survive the night

I fear that my remote might give in to all the abuse. Two great hockey games and two great baseball games all happening at once. Let's hope these four teams don't all repeat Sunday's performances down the stretch tonight...

Tuesday's Notes: SAVE US PHIL HUGHES, PLEASE!

The subject line is being cried out all around the area by Yankees fans as they get set to take on the Tigers in the second of three games in Detroit.

The Yankees have lost four straight and are in desperate need of a strong start by Hughes.

As for the Mets, Livan Hernandez will try and build upon what John Maine did yesterday as the Mets look to hand the Marlins their eighth straight loss.

Sevens are wild tonight on the ice as both the Devils and Rangers will play in their series deciding games against the Hurricanes and Capitals respectively.

Good ol' Tortsy is getting a beat-down by the local media this afternoon, and it will only get worse if the Rangers lose tonight and blow what was a 3-1 series lead just a few days ago.

Monday's Notes: SUNDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY

Wow, what a terrible day for sports in the New York-Metro area. Teams in the area were 0-4, with both the Devils and Rangers blowing chances to clinch their respective series' and move on to the second round.

That does ensure a very interesting Tuesday night as both teams will be playing in Game 7's.

The baseball teams are struggling. Oliver Perez continues to struggle on the mound while Murphy continues to struggle staying on two feet. They begin an important series against the Marlins (who have lost six straight themselves) tonight.

Meanwhile, the Yankees' bullpen is in absolute shambles and the starting rotation is not far behind. They need to recover quickly from their terrible three games in Boston.

D.C. Taking care of N.Y. so far...

Hasn't been a very pleasant sunday afternoon thus far for two of our New York teams against two teams from the nation's capital.

Speaking of capital(s), that hockey team that was left for dead a few days ago seems to be back in full force midway through the second period. If the Caps hold on for the win, it will be very tough to go back to Washington and win a game seven for the Rangers...

As far as the other NY-DC matchup on the day, Oliver Perez and the Mets did not look very good. Unless there is a major come-back in the late innings, it looks like the Mets will fail to sweep the Nats.

Teams always aim to win series (winning 2 out of 3), but given the timultuous week that the Mets had in St. Louis, sweeping the league's worst team at home would have started things in the right direction. Especially with the (suddenly slumping) Marlins coming into town.

More so, Oliver Perez needs to start stringing some good outings together to get his and the rest of the team's confidence up.

----

The Yankees called up Phil Hughes from AAA Scranton- Wilkes Barre for a start Tuesday night. The prized pitcher of the Yankees farm system has been hampered early in his career with injuries and hopefully he can be a shot in the arm for the rotation while Chien-Ming Wang figures out what the hell is going on...
